Sarah Palin's twin lives here in Maine

Imagine living a rather quiet life as a news anchor for WVII, the ABC affiliate in Bangor, Maine, and within weeks of Alaska's governor Sarah Palin being announced as the Republican candidate for Vice President, you start getting hate mail and mean voicemail messages from a group of female TV viewers. That is exactly what happened to Bangor news anchor Cindy Michaels.
Cindy has long hair and wears contacts, but every so often she wears her glasses and puts her hair up. She has been doing this for several years, and her regular news viewers should be quite used to her appearance. But, since Sarah Palin has been thrust into the spotlight in just one month's time, and her look has become quite familiar to the entire world, and the look is rather similar, if not identical to Cindy Michaels look. Cindy has quickly been noticed by national media who have heard about her and her recent unfortunate displeasure of some viewers, who claim she is trying to "sway their vote" by appearing to look like Sarah Palin. One caller even told her she looked like a "cheap K-Mart version of Sarah Palin."

Dave and I talked to her this morning on our show, and when we asked her if she has any plans to change her look to appease those who are upset with it, she answered with a firm, "No way!" Good for her!!

In an effort to prove that the "hair and glasses look" is the ONLY similarity Sarah and Cindy have, we chose to ask her a series of rapid fire questions to see for ourselves. Here's how it went:

MICHELLE: Do you have any caribou meat in your freezer?
CINDY: NO

MICHELLE: Have you ever gone commercial fishing?
CINDY: NO

MICHELLE: Have you ever been on a wolf hunt?
CINDY: NO

MICHELLE: Have you ever been runner up for Miss Alaska?
CINDY: NO

MICHELLE: Have you ever been mayor of a town called Wasilla?
CINDY: NO

MICHELLE: Are you a hockey mom?
CINDY: NO, but I was.

MICHELLE: Is your favorite meal moose stew?
CINDY: NO

MICHELLE: Can you see Russia from your house?
CINDY: NO, but I can see Canada (ha, ha)

She was a good sport and is actually enjoying her brief fling with national fame. We wish her the best!

Now if anybody knows any news anchors who look like Joe Biden, please let us know...equal press time afterall. :)

Is this a man of a woman driving this car?

There is a huge dispute about who is driving this car, the man who owns it, or his wife. This is a "speeding" photo taken by a remote camera.

What do you think?

Look Who's Cookin'!!!

Dave and I had a wonderful time showing off our abilities in the kitchen at the Look Who's Cookin' event that was put on to help raise money for the great organization, "hear ME now!" which promotes oral deaf education for children here in Maine. Thanks to Pam Dawson and the fabulous folks from "hear ME now!" for asking us to create a dish that we could present and serve to all of the patrons who attended the event. Almost $10,000 was raised at the event, and we were happy to be a part of it.

Not a day goes by when Dave and I DON'T talk about food at some point during our work hours. We both love to cook and will frequently talk about concoctions that we prepared for supper the night before and sometimes bring in samples for the other one to try. Our spouses are both willing and eager guinea pigs to our cooking whims. We have both been known to confidently bring a dish or an appetizer to any variety of family or work gatherings through the years, but when asked to whip up something for complete strangers, we were a little nervous, especially knowing we had to cook for 200 people. What if they didn't like what we created??! That is a lot of leftovers!! And we have very sensitive egos, don't you know.

We decided to prepare a gumbo dish that had chicken and kielbasa in it that we would call, "Gumbowumbodoodah." At the very least, if it didn't taste great, it certainly would have a name no one would forget. We fine-tuned our recipe and decided that we would each make our own big pots of the gumbo at our own homes, so we would be sure to have enough for everybody. That plan may have been a mistake. We both brought our pots of gumbo to the event, and when we took the covers off, we saw two different looking dishes. Oops!

Dave's is the dark one on the left. My gumbo is the light one on the right. We both followed the recipes perfectly, but Dave's had a tad more kick and his chicken was a little more shredded, while mine had a milder taste and chunkier chicken. Alright, maybe they BOTH look like something you might see the orphans in "Oliver Twist" or "Annie" eating, but trust me, they sure were tasty!! At least, several of the folks who tried it, told us, "That is the best thing I've had all night." We had several people vote for our dish, but alas, the Golden Apron was not to be...for us.

We had a great time mingling and trying out other people's tasty creations though. There were great chili dishes, fried raviolis, jumbalaya, meatballs and some great desserts too. The winning dish was a seafood chowder that was loaded with lobster, shrimp and scallops. You just can't go wrong with Maine seafood!!

So back to the drawing board we go! We have a whole year to experiment and test things out on our spouses again, and perhaps, we will perfect a dish worthy of a Golden Apron for next year!! At least we will have fun trying!

Dancing With The Stars has sunk to....

A new low by having Cloris Leachman on. She's too OLD, too SLOW and way to foul mouthed.

Here's what one critic says:

Cloris Leachman: Teamed with dancer Corky Ballas (Mark's dad), I'm told they are having a lot of fun together during rehearsals. She will pull in the grandma vote, and they are mighty.

UGH!

Cumberland Fair is open...

I went yesterday and had a great time. French fries, fried dough, fried onion rings....hey wait, all that stuff is fried! It was delicious.

My wife Jan enters a lot of fiber arts stuff to be judged and she got a major award for one of her entries. She got a "Judges Choice" award for a Christmas stocking she knit that featured a chickadee. There are only a handful on entries that win that award, so I'm proud of her.

Go to an Ag fair this fall, it'll be worth it.

I won't be eating at this restaurant anytime soon...

The owner of the Storchen restaurant in the exclusive Winterthur resort will improve his menu with local specialities such as meat stew and various soups and sauces containing at least 75 per cent of mother's milk.

"We have all been raised on it. Why should we not include it into our diet?" Hans Locher, who has become Switzerland most controversial restaurant owner, said.

He said: "I first experimented with breast milk when my daughter was born.

"One can cook really delicious things with it. However, it always needs to be mixed with a bit of whipped cream, in order to keep the consistency."

The food control authority in Switzerland was initially confused by the apparent loophole in local legislation regulating the use of human milk and it was not clear whether Mr Locher could actually be banned from serving his specialities.

Can't this person find something else to cook with? I mean, you have to add cream to it!

The new Guiness Book of World Records is here...

as witnessed by this photo from the premiere:

Her legs are over 50 inches long. He is 2.5 feet tall.

What superlatives!!

THIS is fashion??!?

Here's the latest in fashion from a London fashion show:

I wonder where Rick Moranis is? You know, Dark Helmet in Spaceballs?

If I ever saw anyone wearing this in public, I'd have something to say.....

It amazes me how someone's life can change with...

a BAD decision. Just like this guy!

A 40-year-old man walking his dog in the nude Friday night was Tasered by police when he became belligerent and refused to follow an officer’s commands.

When asked what he was doing, the man told the officer, “Allah told me to watch a Bruce Willis movie and walk the dog,” police said.“He was obviously having some sort of emotional distress,” he said. “It was unfortunate we had to use the Taser. … It was the only way we could subdue him without having to hurt him.”The man was then sent for mental-health evaluation and treatment.

Normally you'd have some clothes to hang on to. Not in this case however. I can't post the picture....sorry. Use your imagination.

More of Michelle's wedding pictures...

I wanted to take a moment to reflect on my wedding, which took place on July 12th. As we are starting to get more and more photos sent to us from all of our friends and family and our professional photographers, I can't help but notice the BEAUTIFUL flowers that surrounded us on Dana's and my BIG day!! I need to commend the absolutely fabulous staff at Ann's Flower Shop at the Taylor Brook Mall on Minot Ave in Auburn, with a special thank you, in particular, to Kathy Lare from Ann's! They did the flowers for my sister Renee's wedding and my girlfriend Michelle's wedding too, and I knew that I wanted them for mine too.

Not only did Kathy and her sister personally deliver all of the flowers to all of the venues, but they met our entire wedding party at the church. They came out to the limo and brought in our bouquets and pinned on flowers and straightened them out and handed us our bouquets just as we were getting set to walk down the aisle, so we didn't have to worry about a thing. I couldn't have felt more relaxed! I won't speak for Dana though.

I couldn't believe it was only a few months before the big day that I walked into Ann's armed with a 3-ring binder that had a couple of pages of pictures with basic color and flower ideas that I liked. I went in to meet Kathy, and with her expertise and eye for floral design, she guided me through our plan for the wedding. I knew that I wanted a tightly bound lime green bouquet with just a splash of raspberry color for me, and I wanted it to coordinate perfectly with the girls' lime green dresses. And for the girls, I was hoping for tightly bound raspberry colored bouquets that would add the pop of color I was hoping for.

If you know about my love for the occasional margarita, then you probably aren't shocked to know that I was really hoping to have centerpieces that looked like oversized versions of Dana's and my favorite cocktail! Kathy tracked down the perfect sized margarita glasses, and from there, she created the tastiest-looking (yet, still very classy-looking) centerpieces I had ever seen. The tables either had a lime colored or raspberry colored centerpiece on them.

Throughout the day, we were swamped with compliments about how beautiful the flowers were! Let me tell you, there were more than a few aunts who were deciding which one of them was going to be one of those lucky enough to take a centerpiece home with them. They were one of the hits of the wedding, for sure!

So, thank you, again, Ann's Flower Shop! Dana's and my wedding day was the happiest day in our lives, and you helped make it even more perfect than we ever imagined it would be.

We're showing off our BEAUTIFUL bouquets for a photo op!

The girls' bouquets and a lime green margarita centerpiece make for a nice splash of color at our table-for-two "Sweetheart Table" at the reception.

Since everyone in our wedding party is married, we decided to have a table honoring them. We had framed photos of all of their wedding couple photos, including our parents' wedding pictures on display for all to see while they signed the guestbook. We were in or at all of their weddings (except our parents' weddings, of course)! The lime green and raspberry margarita centerpieces decorated the table perfectly!

Here is a close-up of one of the gorgeous centerpieces!!

Here is close-up of my sister, Renee's raspberry colored bouquet...just mesmerizing with the big plump roses and perfect hydrangeas. And check out the lime green dragonfly and butterfly bling hiding in it too...SASSY!

And this is a close-up of MY bouquet! My breath was just taken away when I got my first look at it. It was more beautiful than I imagined it would be! It is filled with raspberry and lime green colored roses, lime green hydrangeas, green berrie and the gorgeous green cymbidium orchids that have just that perfect splash of raspberry color in them.

This is one of the pieces that decorated the church for the ceremony. We wanted to make sure they were shown off, so we put them on display at the reception too. I love the spider mums!!

We had Ann's work with our cake creator, so we could have green cymbidium orchids adorning our fabulous cake too!

Thank you so much to Debbie Hall who owns and creates the gorgeous and TASTY cakes at "Cakes By Debbie" in Windham. I showed her a couple of pictures to give her the basic idea of what we wanted, and she made us some samples so we could pick out the perfect flavor, but we obviously didn't know what the cake would be like until we walked into the reception. I think that my eyes watered when I saw it. It was just so beautiful! She made us a raspberry cake with raspberry filling as well as a second sheet cake that was coconut flavored with raspberry filling...so moist and yummy!!! I can't wait for my anniversary, so we can enjoy it all over again! I highly recommend Debbie to any brides-to-be who are dreaming of their perfect cake. Here is her website. www.cakesbydebbie.com.
