VENT ABOUT PEOPLE TAKING MY MONEY!!

Okay, so I am not one to complain a whole lot, but I'm feeling a little aggravated right now over something that happened over the weekend. My husband and I wanted to buy a cheap second car just to get him back and forth to work. We thought we found the perfect car on craigs list! Last Thursday, we drove all the way from South Portland to Lewiston to check out a vehicle. Got there, liked it, wanted to buy it, but was a little hesitant because it had no sticker...Guy said, "Hey, I can get one for you today, if you wanna buy it"...We said great! We give him a deposit (at his request of $100), and writes out a promise note saying he PROMISES to get it stickered and we promise to buy it and give him the rest of the money saturday! So, the wifey isn't too happy the hubby made the promise because she didn't want to have to get it stickered but decides she will go along with it! Supposedly they were supposed to get it stickered friday, and low and behold they get pulled over and get fined and have to have the car towed home! Sooooo, no sticker! So, then we offer to buy the car a couple hundred bucks cheaper without the sticker, and she doesn't wanna do it. So, we apologize that they got caught driving without a sticker, but we'd like our deposit back due to the fact you didn't come through with the "promise". Oh NO! They want to keep it because they got caught and had to pay a fine! So, as much as we are in the right because we have this signed promise note, what do we do? Get mad, and get over it, or make a stink out of it? Guess we will get over it, because I don't think going to small claims over $100 is worth it, but I sure feel better venting about it! AND we certainly learned a valuable lesson! Don't ever give strangers from Craigs list money without the goods first! By the way, we did end up finding another vehicle for him so all was not totally lost! Carry on....

Well, you made what I would call a "conditional" promise; that is, you PROMISED to BUY the car for their price (The deposit was not really a deposit but part of the purchase price) on the CONDITION (Promise) that they would get it stickered. They did not, so I would think that you would be entitled to the $100 back.
