The Obama ladies shine!!
First Lady Michelle Obama looked stunning in her inauguration ensemble, which for the record, was in the color, "lemongrass," as the designer called it. In some light, it took on a yellow tint, and in other light, more of a greenish hue. My bridesmaids wore a lime green color, so I must admit, I have a weakness for the color. The First Lady likes to wear clothes from young designers as well as from mainstream retailers. The sparkling dress with matching coat was a creation of Cuban-born American designer Isabel Toledo. If you wondered, like I did, why she didn't look cold after standing outside for the inauguration and for the parade all day long, that is because the coat had a layer of pashmina wool under it for warmth. The green gloves she wore you may actually find in your OWN closet. They were from J. Crew!
Meanwhile, how cute did Sasha and Malia Obama look?! 10-year-old Malia's royal blue coat with the blue ribbon bow at the waist and 7-year-old Sasha's pretty in pink coat with the orange scarf and satin belt were also from J.Crew's children's store. I have a feeling they are going to be fashion icons to young girls in these 4 years that we get a chance to see them grow up.
Though I wish she had picked a bold color instead of going with white, the First Lady did look like a princess in her one-shouldered gown by young designer Jason Wu for last night's inaugural ball. Next to President Obama in his debonair black tuxedo, they were a gorgeous couple, indeed.
All this fashion talk now has me geeked up for my favorite night of the year...The Academy Awards!! Nominations are announced tomorrow!! Woo Hoo! Bring on the Red Carpet arrivals!
